Powell named interim principal at SCHS
The recent arrest of Sussex Central High School Principal Dana I. Goodman has sent shockwaves through teachers, parents and students statewide. Goodman, arrested on rape charges involving a 17-year-old female student at the high school, was being held this week on $331,000 cash-only bail. Following the past week’s events, the regularly scheduled Indian River School Board meeting on Tuesday, May 6, had another topic for board members to consider in their executive session: Who would be named the acting praincipal of Sussex Central?

Baseball moves to 14-1, steals one from Forest

IR tennis readies for Henlopen Championship
The season schedule may be winding down for Indian River High School’s boys’ and girls’ tennis team, but their racquets are all but retired. There will be no time for relaxing this weekend as the teams head to the Sea Colony tennis club on Friday, May 9, to square off in the Henlopen Conference tournament, beginning at 1 p.m.
Students depict Clayton building for art auction
The Southern Delaware School of the Arts, temporarily housed in the “old” Indian River High School – otherwise known as the John M. Clayton Building – will be hosting a Silent Art Auction this Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to coincide with the school’s World Fair celebration.

Sussex Tech group gets gold for green works
The Community Service Group at Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown recently won the Delaware State Gold Medal for its schoolwide recycling program, with the award presented at the SkillsUSA award ceremony. The group is now eligible to go on to national competition, to be held in Kansas City this June.

Most people have heard about the countless contributions they can make to help improve the environment, although many people are still hesitant to jump aboard.
