Billie Jo (Grant) Drainer, 44
Billie Jo (Grant) Drainer, 44, passed away peacefully Monday, December 17, 2007.
Drainer was preceded in death by her grandson, Zachary Grant. She is survived by her mother, Ina Grant of Millsboro; her father, Richard Grant of Wilmington; her husband, Paul Drainer; daughters, Allisha Grant and Paula Drainer of Florida; a son, Paul Drainer Jr. of Wilmington; grandson, Paul Sission; sisters, June Schavelin and Donna Carney; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 27, 2007, at 6 p.m. at Oak Orchard Community Church. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Strano and Feeley, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702.
Billy Hall, 53
Billy Hall, 53, of near Bridgeville, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at his home. He was a long distance truck driver for Perdue, Inc. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1971 – 1974 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He attended Grace U.M. Church in Georgetown. A Philadelphia Eagles fan, he also loved watching Animal Planet, cooking and singing. A devoted, loving father and husband, he was all about family and loved to spend time with his children and do the “crooked leg.”
Hall was preceded in death by his father, John Hall. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Dickson Hall; his mother, Magdalene Hall; his mother-in-law, Blanche Hughes; two sons, Billy Hall Jr. and his friend Thao Giang of Bishopville, MD. and Phillip Hall and his wife Angie of Selbyville; two daughters, Teresa Blake of Bishopville, Md. and Hillary Blake and her friend Kevin Harmon of Frankford; three brothers, John Hall Jr. and his wife Cathy of Frankford, Michael Hall and his wife Toni of Bridgeville, and Paris Hall of Dagsboro; three sisters, Georgeanna Purnell and her husband James of Frankford, Tyanna Collick and her husband Webster of Frankford, and Tammy Parker and her husband Gregory of Newark, Del.; two grandchildren, Kevon Harmon and Mia Hall; two uncles, John Dyers of Bishop, Md. and Monroe McCall and his wife Peggy of Berlin, Md.; three aunts, Isabelle Jackson of Philadelphia, Mildred Owens of Frankford and Gail McCall of Millsboro; his best friends, John and Denise Showell, Louise and Jackie Hall, Gilbert Houston, Lawyer Hicks; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were scheduled for Wednesday, December 26, 2007, with interment in Zoar Golden Acres U.M. Church Cemetery in Bishopville, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the American Lung Association, 102 Gilpin Ave., Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806-3280.
Alvin J. Hitchens, 90
Alvin J. Hitchens, 90, from Laurel, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2007. He was an avid farmer and poultry grower for over 60 years. He served as the Wagon Master for the Delaware Wonderers camping group, taking great pleasure in traveling and camping throughout the country and never meeting a stranger. He was also a member of the Sussex County Farm Bureau, serving as a Delegate and as Director from 1985-1994. Along with attending farm machinery sales, he took special delight in showing the numerous photos of his great-grandchildren he kept tucked in his shirt pocket.
Hitchens was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Eva L. Hitchens; his infant daughter, Mary Ellen; his brothers, James and Oliver Hitchens; his sisters, Dorothy and Madaline Hitchens and Mildred Wooters. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, the former Ruth Joseph; his sons, Roland Hitchens and his wife Joan of Georgetown and Marvin Hitchens and his wife Jean Ellen of Laurel; his daughters, Phyllis Layton and husband Byard of Seaford, Doris Dukes and her companion Bill Mewshaw of Frankford, and Linda Wintjen and her husband Gary of Laurel; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to pay a special thank-you to care-givers Barbara Carter and Gloria West for the excellent care they gave our father and continue to give our mother.
Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, December 22, 2007, with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel. Eric L. Johnston, Esquire, 61
Eric L. Johnston, Esquire, 61, of Millville, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. He was a retired Attorney-at-Law and a member of the Georgetown Lions Club.
Johnston was preceded in death by his parents, Noris and Dorothy (Hartney) Johnston. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois E. (Schicker) Johnston; and a brother, Deryl Johnston.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 21, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services on West Avenue in Ocean View. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
Loukas P. Nafpaktitis, 67
Loukas P. Nafpaktitis, 67, of Ocean View, formerly of Olney, Md., passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, surrounded by his loving family. He was a building engineer for CSN Management in Kensington, Md., retiring after 25 years of service. He attended St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, Md. He loved building and working with his hands, as well as fixing things, working with computers and working in his yard.
Nafpaktitis is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Fane P. (Tzotze) Nafpaktitis; two children, Martha King and her husband Chris of Frederick, Md., Peter Nafpaktitis and his wife Jill of Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister, Georgia Hliopoulous and her husband George of Greece; two grandchildren, Alexa King and Loukas Nafpaktitis.
A funeral service was scheduled for Saturday, December 22, 2007, with interment in St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. George Orthodox Church, 8805 Coastal Hwy., Ocean City, MD 21842.
Larry G. Robinson, 59
Larry G. Robinson, 59, of Georgetown, formerly of Claymont, Del., passed away Friday, December 21, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was a Cafeteria Manager for the State of Delaware Division of the Visually Impaired in Wilmington, retiring in 1999 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed doing things that most people who are legally blind cannot do, such as sailing, camping, traveling in his motor home and the Discovery Channel. He was a unique man who was very family-oriented.
Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Doris (Lowman) Robinson. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Helen E. (Baker) Robinson; children, Christine Rogers and her husband Eddie of Georgetown, Kevin Robinson and his wife Jennifer of North Carolina, Karen Hird and her husband Steve of Gumboro; two brothers, Roland Robinson of Richmond, Va. and Robert Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private.
