C. Keith Lawson, 52
C. Keith Lawson, 52, of Salisbury, Md., formerly of Fenwick Island, Del., and Orlando, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at home. A graduate of Lake Highland Preparatory School and University of North Carolina at Charlotte, he was a businessman whose multiple businesses included Shore Foods and Sandy Toz, both in Bethany Beach. He was a Baltimore Ravens fan, as well as an Orlando Magic fan for years. He was past president of the Bethany/Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Ocean City Ravens Roost at the Green Turtle and was a friend to cats everywhere.
Lawson was preceded in death by his father, Alfred J. “Tut” Lawson Jr.; and his brother, Alfred J. “A.J.” Lawson III. He is survived by his loving mother, Ruth Briddell Lawson of Orlando, Fla.; his brother, Kim Lawson and wife Tillie Doyle of Crisfield, Md.; his sister, Kathy Lawson Dryden and husband Larry C. of Eden; his aunts, Phyllis Hayden and husband Dr. John Hayden of Lacrosse, Wisc., and Joyce Briddell of Salisbury; sister-in-law, Ann Ward Lawson of Crisfield; his close personal friend and cousin, Emily Ann Muller of Baltimore, Md.; his best feline friend, Charlie; many cousins far and wide; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, with interment in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield, Md. In his memory, donations may be made to Bethany Town Cats, P.O. Box 911, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
Samuel D. McLaughlin, 90
Samuel D. McLaughlin, 90, of Winter Springs, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, in Winter Springs. Born in Clarksville, Del., he attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and Strayers Business School in Baltimore, Md. In 1947 he developed and managed the distribution department that processed direct mail advertising for the Family Finance System, a national corporation with headquarters in Wilmington and nearly 500 offices throughout the country. He became a Christian in 1947 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and he attended First Baptist Church of Winter Springs, Fla.
McLaughlin was the son of the late Benjamin and Edna Evans McLaughlin. He is survived by his son, David; daughter-in-law, Sandi; and granddaughter, Lauren.
Services were scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, with interment next to his wife Helena in St. George’s Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville.
Mark Thomas Mudry
Mark Thomas Mudry, 49, of Millsboro, passed away early Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in a fatal automobile accident. He worked for 1st Class Heating & Air of Millsboro. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also a huge Giants fan and would have reveled in their winning the Super Bowl this year. After graduating from Indian River High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard.
Mudry was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas J. “Tink” Mudry Sr. He is survived by his mother, Marion Mudry of Ocean View; a daughter, Crystal Mudry and a son, Mark Jr., both of New Mexico; twin sons in whom he took great pride, Andrew and Derrick Mudry, aged 10, of Ocean View; his brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas J. and Cynthia Mudry of Ocean View; a niece, Jennifer Cutter of Dagsboro; and a nephew, Matthew Mudry of Ocean View.
A memorial service was set for 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services on West Avenue in Ocean View. A celebration of his life will be held immediately following the service at the home of Nicholas and Cynthia Mudry, 20 Holly Lane, Ocean View. In lieu of flowers, contributions for a future college fund for Andrew and Derrick may be made at any PNC Bank in the name of Nicholas Mudry.
Elizabeth T. ‘Betty’ Murray, 73
Elizabeth T. “Betty” Murray, 73, of Selbyville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She had been a kindergarten teacher, retiring after 28 years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, the Fenwick Island Women’s Club, the Women’s Club of the Keenwicks, the Fenwick Island Yacht Club, the Friends of the Selbyville Library, the Friends of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse and the Red Hat Mamas of Selbyville.
Murray was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruth Brittingham Timmons; and her husband, Gerald E. Murray. She is survived by her sons, Keith Hudson and his wife Lori of Tucson, Ariz., and Kevin Holm-Hudson and his wife Karen of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, William “Bill” Timmons of Rehoboth Beach; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at noon at Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Women’s Club of the Keenwicks, P.O. Box 899, Selbyville, DE 19975; or the Friends of the Selbyville Public Library, P.O. Box 739, Selbyville, DE 19975.
Lorraine W. Steen, 67
Lorraine W. Steen, 67, of Frankford, Del.; Quinby, Va.; and St. James City, Fla.; passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at her home in Frankford. She was a retired registered nurse. She spent her winters in Pine Island, Fla., where she was the choir director and an active member of the First Baptist Church of St. James City, Fla. She spent her summers on the Eastern Shore of Virginia at her home in Virginia Landing, where she had many dear friends. She was also an organist and pianist at St. George’s United Methodist Church in Clarksville from the age of 15 until she moved to Florida.
Steen was preceded in death by her father, Edwin West; and her husband of 46 years, William V. Steen III. She is survived by her mother, Margaret West of Frankford; two sons, William V. Steen IV and his wife Sandra of Mesa, Ariz. and Todd E. Steen and his wife Lisa of Huntersville, N.C.; her brother, Richard E. West and his wife Sonya of Frankford; grandchildren, Sarah E. Steen, Richard C. Steen, Kelsey N. Steen and Kennedy B. Steen; a great-granddaughter, Marlo A. Steen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
