Natalie S. Alloway, 82

Natalie S. Alloway, 82, of Long Neck, Del., formerly of Blackwood, N.J., passed away at her home on Saturday, May 3, 2008. She was an office manager for South Jersey Medical Associates in Cherry Hill, N.J., retiring after 20 years of service. She loved cooking, painting and was an avid reader. She was a member of the 9-Holers at the Sussex Pines Golf Course in Georgetown, Del.

Alloway was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Natalie (Rosenthal) Soltner. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jack R. Alloway; a daughter, Karen Ritchie of Meredith, N.H.; two step-daughters, Susan Stow and her husband, Edward, of Meherrin, Va. and Julie Neitzke and her husband, Kent, of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; her brother, Frank Soltner and his wife, Eleanor, of Lewes, Del., six grandchildren, Melanie Pittard of Washington, D.C., Sean Ritchie of Meredith, N.H., Donna Ritchie of New Hampton, N.H., Kristin Dube of Meredith, N.H., Lauren Neitzke of New Brunswick, N.J. and Justin Neitzke of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to a charity of the giver’s choice

John Breckenridge, 73

John Breckenridge, 73, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Woodlyn, Pa., passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. He had been a postal carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 29 years of service. He was a member of AARP and was an avid coin and stamp collector.

Breckenridge was preceded in death by a son, Charles Leach. He is survived by his wife, Mary Breckenridge; three sons, William Leach of Woodlyn, Pa., David Leach of Woodlyn, Pa. and Kevin Leach of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Robin Whitton of Ridley Park, Pa. and Rochelle Vandergrift of Woodlyn, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Beebe Medical Foundation, Emergency Dept., 902 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE 19958.

James E. Holleran, 81

James E. Holleran, 81, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Levittown, Pa., passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in the Renaissance Health Care Center, Long Neck, Del., while recuperating from heart bypass surgery. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He later moved to Philadelphia, Pa., to work in the music profession, playing the tuba in many area bands and orchestras. He worked as a tool- and die-maker until his retirement in 1989. His passion was music and he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, clock repair and aeronautics. He was a member of the Long Neck Cheer Center and the VFW Post #0834 in Fallsington, Pa.

Holleran was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel (Daley) Holleran; his wife, Patricia Hoffman Holleran; a son, Michael; his brothers, Charlie and Jack; and sisters, Rita and Lois. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Colleen McDowell and her husband, Dave, of Millsboro, and their four children, Christian, James, Brent and David; his son, Dr. Daniel Holleran and his wife, LuAnn, of Holland, Pa. and their six children, Stephen, Kevin, Robbie, Keith, Tim and Lauren. In addition, his is survived by his sister, Ethel Schlotter of Bradenton, Fla.; his brother, T. Jerome Holleran of Reading, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2008, with interment privately held in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 202 Edward’s Street, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Catherine Hudson Magee, 79

Catherine Hudson Magee, 79, of Dagsboro, Del., formerly a longtime resident of Frankford, Del., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at her home in Point Farm. She tended chickens for many years. Her favorite hobbies were flounder fishing, playing cards and arguing. Later in life, she loved watching John Wayne movies. She was in poor health since suffering a stroke and had been cared for in her home by her granddaughter Dusty Thompson, her daughter Edwina Magee and loving friend Christine Drayton.

Magee was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Della (Mumford) Hudson; and her husband, Eddie J. Magee. She is survived by a son, Erick Magee of Frankford; two daughters, Edwina Magee of Newark, Md. and Regina Scott of Millsboro, Del.; a step-son, Donnie Magee of Dagsboro; a sister, Henrietta Sexton of Dagsboro; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Ralph C. Morris, 70

Ralph C. Morris, 70, of Lewes, Del., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at home, with his loving family by his side. He was a farmer, working for Townsend’s for many years and was also a carpenter, self-employed as well as working for area contractors. He had previously attended the Israel United Methodist Church in Lewes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents, John Morris and Eliza C. Johnson Morris. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alberta M. Wright Morris; his brother, Lawrence Morris of Lewes; daughters, Brenda Norman and her husband, David, Teresa L. Jones and her husband, Cecil, of Lewes, Regina M. Morris of Woodbridge, Va., Polly A. Faulk and her husband, Thomas, of Laurel, Del. and Eliza C. Morris of New Castle, Del.; sons, Jeffrey L. Wright and his wife, Mary, of Bridgeville, Del. and Ralph C. Morris Jr. of Trenton, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2008, with interment in Israel U.M. Church Cemetery, Lewes.

Joan A. Peake, 67

Joan A. Peake, 67, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Ft. Washington, Md., passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post #7234 at Quillen’s Point in Ocean View, as well as a member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. She enjoyed people and loved socializing with her friends.

Peake was preceded in death by her parents, Malcom Stuart Beaton and Anna Mae (Shockency) Beaton; her brother, Kenneth S. Beaton; and a sister, Judith A. Ruby. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Frederick Lee Peake; a son, Frederick “Pete” Lee Peake Jr.; a daughter, Kelly Ann Chick; a granddaughter, Sarah Chick; and a grandson, Andrew D. Chick.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2008, with interment in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Brandywine, Md.

Harrison Posey, 88

Harrison Posey, 88, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Boothwyn, Pa., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del. He was employed at Sun Oil Co. in Marcus Hook, Pa., for over 30 years, retiring in management. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was a member of St. George’s Chapel, Harbeson, Del. He was a Mason with the Concord Lodge in Pa. and also the Nur Temple of Wilmington, Del. He enjoyed hunting and gardening, especially his tomatoes. He was a kind and generous man, liked by everyone.

Posey is survived by his wife of 25 years, Yvonne Posey; two sons, Gary Posey of Twin Oaks, Pa. and John Posey and his wife, Colleen, of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Judith Bixler and her husband, Vernon, of Brookhaven, Pa.; a step-son, Steven Caroll of Milton, Del.; two step-daughters, Sandra and Jim Sacra of Millerville, Md. and Janice Caroll of Newark, Del.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ormil ‘Doc’ Savage Sr., 82

Ormil “Doc” Savage Sr., 82, of Ocean View, Del., passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at his home. While serving with the United States Marine Corps during World War II, he was wounded at Guadalcanal and was a Purple Heart recipient. He attended the Bay Shore Community Church in Gumboro, Del.

Savage was preceded in death by his parents, A. Frank and Gretchen (Wainwright) Savage; and his wife, Irene Savage. He is survived by two daughters, Connie Lathbury and her husband, Chip, of Dagsboro, Del. and Wanda Weber and her husband, Wayne, of Frankford, Del.; a son, Ormil Savage Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Ocean View; five grandchildren, Jonah Lathbury of Dagsboro, Stacie Mills of Ocean View, Leah Clark of Frankford, Andrew Weber of Frankford and Ryan Savage of Bishopville, Md.; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Irma Timmons, Viola Clark and Myrtle Hitchens.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2008, with interment in St. George’s Cemetery, Clarksville, Del.

Helen Davis Weldie, 89

Helen Davis Weldie, 89, of Long Neck, Del., formerly of Wilmington, Del., passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. She was a graduate of Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Md., and played on their basketball team. She was an elementary school teacher in the Wilmington area for 39 years. She was a member of the East Gate Presbyterian Church in Long Neck and an avid sports fan.

Weldie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Asa Davis. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Calvin Weldie; three nephews, Bill Craig, David Low and John Low; two nieces, Ann Llewelyn and Pat Kesmodel; and a brother, Julian Davis.

Thomas James Wright, 76

Thomas James Wright, 76, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del. He was a tow truck driver for Ruxton Towing for many years. He loved camping, crabbing and model-building.

Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Matilda Schalitzky Wright. He is survived by a son, Thomas Gary Wright of Millsboro; two daughters, Debra Johnson of Lago Vista, Texas, and Vicky Jeeter of Leander, Texas; two brothers, Ronald Wright of Baltimore, Md. and George Wright of Hollywood, Fla.; one sister, Sue Van Blargan of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the Evans Funeral Chapel, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Walter H. Bunting, 86

Walter H. Bunting, 86, of Bishopville, Md., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. He was a farmer, and owned and operated Bunting & Bertrand in Frankford, Del., for 38 years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Bishopville and was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Bunting was preceded in death by his daughter, Lana Rae Bunting. He is survived by his wife, Eva N. Bunting; and a half-sister, Vera Hoffman of Philadelphia, Pa.

Ronald G. Crockett, 64

Ronald G. Crockett, 64, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of the New Castle, Del. area, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 27, 2008. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked with John J. Crockett & Sons Subcontracting Company for many years and most recently he worked for the State of Delaware as a trade mechanic at the Stockley Center in Georgetown. He was a member of American Legion Post #28 of Oak Orchard. He enjoyed fishing, boating and being with his friends.

Crockett was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie (McHenry) Crockett. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Geraldine “Geri” Crockett; two sons, Scott Crockett and his wife, Lisa, of Mulbury, Mass., and Ronald Crockett of New York; a daughter, Joyce Ely and her husband, Bryan, of Glen Mills, Pa.; a brother, John J. Crockett and his wife, Helen, of Key West, Fla.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Julia Penna of Wilmington, Del.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2008, with interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

Pearl Mae Davis, 92

Pearl Mae Davis, 92, of Hartly, Del., passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del. A homemaker, she loved to cook, loved Emeril Lagasse recipes, loved to laugh and dance. She was a very happy person who will be greatly missed. She lived for her grandkids and had the cleanest house ever kept.

Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Martha E. Jackson Thompson; a daughter, Delphine Davis; and several siblings. She is survived by a son, Alonzo F. Davis of Hartly; a daughter, Marguerette H. Gardner of Hartly; a son-in-law, Tyrone Gardner of Clayton, Del.; two step-daughters, Betty Coleman of Hartly and Carol Lee Hall of Florida; a brother, Howdy Thompson of Millsboro, Del.; a sister-in-law, Bertha Thompson of Millsboro; her two dearest friends, Margaret Henson and Phoebe Martin; four grandchildren, Dwayne Davis and his wife, Sharon, Darlene Cunningham and her husband, Val, Neville Coleman, and Patrick Britt and his wife, Nicole; four great-grandchildren, Shawn Jack and his wife, Becky, Chenitra Jack, Valentino Cunningham, and Kirsten Davis; three great-great-grandchildren, Davonte Adams, Savanna Jack and Darius Jack; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Del., where friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Harmony U.M. Church Cemetery, near Millsboro.

Katherine Rolph Ebner, 86

Katherine Rolph Ebner, 86, of Ocean View, formerly of the Washington, D.C., area, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. She had been an elementary school teacher.

Ebner was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. and Mabel Jehle Rolph; and her husband, Roland A. Ebner. She is survived by three sons, Dean R. Ebner of Laytonsville, Md., Timothy R. Ebner of Mt. Airy, Md. and Keith R. Ebner of Greer, S.C.; a daughter, Judy Rolph Ebner of Madrid, Spain; a brother, Samuel J. Rolph of Sykesville, Md.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ellwood Frey, 78

Ellwood Frey, 78, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of the Washington, D.C., area, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Renaissance Health Care Center, Long Neck, Del. He was a member for 54 years of the Carpenters/Joiners Union Local 132 in Washington, D.C.

Frey was preceded in death by his parents, Capt. Harlan Frey and Adelaide Murray Frey. His mother passed away when he was 2 years old, and he was raised by his father and a very caring, loving step-mother, Pearl Fennell Frey. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Leonard; his sister, Gertrude Goodhue of Md.; his nephews, Keith Goodhue of Annapolis, Md. and Robert Frey of Chicago, Ill.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eileen Dowey Frey; a daughter, Donna Eytchison and her husband, Vernon, of Laurel, Md.; two sons, Steven and his wife, Teri, of Oviedo, Fla., and David and his wife, Marvella, of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Carrie and Lauren Eytchison of Laurel, Md., Rebecca Paugh and her husband, Shawn, of York, Pa., Steven Frey II and his wife, Maria, of Charlotte, N.C., Andrew Frey of Orland, Fla., Cody Wright of Richmond, Va., Aidan and Liliana Frey of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road in Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m.

Marsha L. Hale, 63

Marsha L. Hale, 63, of Lewes, Del., formerly of Wilmington, Del., passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at her sister’s home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the medical records supervisor at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, retiring after 38 years of service. She enjoyed boating, fishing, reading, watching sci-fi movies and loved to shop. She was an animal lover, humanitarian and a very loving and giving friend. She was an avid collector of angels.

Hale was preceded in death by her parents, Orville T. and Ruth (Myers) Clark; and her husband, John Hale. She is survived by her sister, Christine King and her husband, Bruce, of Lewes; a nephew, Capt. Brian King of Cape Hatteras, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Pamela Stein of Wilmington, Del.; and a brother-in-law, Don Hale and his wife, Carol, also of Wilmington.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, Del. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

John Anthony Knaggs, 82

John Anthony Knaggs, 82, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Bladensburg, Md., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, at his home.
He was the loving and devoted husband of Mary “Cathy” Knaggs; father of Susan Wilson and her husband, Rodger; John “Jack” Knaggs Jr., Kathy Henderson and her husband, Donald, Elaine Knaggs, and Steven Knaggs and his wife, Cindy. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Brian and Jennifer; and other relatives and friends.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del. Immediately following the service, the family will be receiving friends at the Georgia House restaurant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the givers’ favorite charities.

Andre Lavanceau, 71, of Ocean City, Md., formerly of Dayton, Md., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his home. He had been an HVAC contractor and a pastry chef. He was a member of the Ocean City Parrothead Club.

Lavanceau was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Jeanne Casou Lavanceau; and a daughter, Susanne C. Peery. He is survived by his wife, Patricia IlcZuk-Lavanceau; a son, Andre D. Lavanceau of Roxana, Del.; a daughter, Colette M. Gerasimos D. ‘Jerry’ “Papou” Moutzalias, 93

Gerasimos D. “Jerry” “Papou” Moutzalias, 93, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Silver Spring, Md., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del. He was a retired restaurant operator and a longtime member of the parish council at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City, Md. He was family-oriented and loved being around his friends and family. He also enjoyed cooking and fishing.
Moutzalias was preceded in death by his parents, Demetruis and Anna (Vlasopoulos) Moutzalias. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Moutzalias; a son, James Moutzalias and his wife, Lynn Patterson; a daughter, Anna Meiklejohn and her husband, Gary; six grandchildren, Marianne Moutzalias, Michael Moutzalias and his wife, Jen, Christina Meiklejohn, James Meiklejohn, Jonathan Meiklejohn and his wife, Shelby, and Jerry Meiklejohn; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Miller, Van Meiklejohn and Demetreus Moutzalias; three brothers, Gregory Moutzalias and his wife, Afendra; George Moutzalias and his wife, Hannah, and Socretes Moutzalias and his wife, Alexandria; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Nathan R. ‘Dick’ Perry Jr., 76

Nathan R. “Dick” Perry Jr., 76, of Ocean City, Md., formerly of Silver Spring, Md., passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was an electrical engineer and project head for Vitro Laboratories in Silver Spring, where he had worked for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Ocean City Elks Lodge and the Ocean Pines Golf Club. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed bowling and spending time on the water. He was an army veteran of the Korean War.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan R. Perry Sr. and Elizabeth Cullen Perry. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Laura M. Perry; two sons, Nathan R. Perry III of Lake Ranch, Fla., and James D. Harrison of Palm City, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Connor and Cameron Perry.
